Overview
This article covers three related views that help maintain data quality and manage events and categories in bulk: the Validation view, the Events view (within allocations), and Bulk Recategorizations.
Validation View
The Validation view scans allocation records for data quality issues and flags problems that may impact reporting accuracy.
Validation Check Types
The validation engine checks for various issue types:
| Check | Description | Severity |
|---|---|---|
| Overlapping allocations | Two allocations for the same asset overlap in time | Error |
| Gaps in coverage | Unaccounted time periods between consecutive allocations | Warning |
| Missing root cause | Allocation has no root cause event assigned | Warning |
| Category mismatch | Allocation category doesn't match expected rules | Error |
| Duration anomalies | Unusually short or long allocations based on tolerance settings | Info |
Remedies
For each flagged issue, the Validation view suggests remedies:
Navigate to allocation — Jump directly to the problematic allocation in the Allocations view
Auto-fix — For certain issues (like small gaps), the system can automatically adjust boundaries
Ignore — Mark the issue as reviewed/acceptable
Tolerance Settings
Configure validation thresholds:
Minimum gap duration — Gaps shorter than this threshold are flagged
Minimum allocation duration — Very short allocations may indicate data issues
Asset-specific rules — Different thresholds per asset type
Events View
The Events view (within the Availability application navigation) provides a fleet-level event browser. Unlike the Events tab inside a single allocation's expansion (which shows only that allocation's events), this view shows all events across the selected time range and assets.
Features
Event listing — Table of all events with code, name, priority, source, start/end time, duration
Add event — Create new manual events
Edit event — Modify event properties (priority, time range, category)
Delete event — Remove manual events (SCADA events cannot be deleted)
Filtering — Filter by event type, priority, source, time range
Bulk allocation creation — Create allocations directly from selected events
Bulk Recategorizations
The Bulk Recategorizations tab provides a specialized tool for applying category changes to large numbers of allocations at once, with full undo capability.
Workflow
Create a recategorization rule — Define the source category (what to change from) and target category (what to change to)
Set scope — Select which assets, time ranges, and allocation types the rule applies to
Preview — Review which allocations will be affected before applying
Apply — Execute the recategorization
Undo — If needed, reverse the entire batch recategorization
Recategorization Types
Category change — Move allocations from one category to another
Sub-category change — Change only the sub-level categorization
Multi-level change — Modify multiple levels of the category hierarchy simultaneously
Audit Trail
All bulk recategorizations are logged with:
Who performed the change
When it was applied
How many allocations were affected
The original and new categories
Whether it has been undone
