Introduction
Description
The Single KPI Widget displays a single key performance indicator (KPI) value. This value can be either aggregated over a defined time period or shown in real-time, depending on the data source and configuration. It is ideal for highlighting critical metrics such as total energy output, current fault count, or average efficiency in a simple, high-impact format. The Single KPI is multi-stating enabled, meaning user-defined value ranges can be applied to the value to color-code the output.
Purpose
This widget helps renewable energy professionals monitor essential metrics at a glance. Whether tracking live system status or summarizing performance over time, the Single KPI Widget provides immediate visibility into operational health and business-critical indicators across Solar, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Target Audience
Business Users: Executives, asset managers, and operations leads who need quick access to top-level metrics.
Technical Users: Engineers, analysts, and dashboard/report designers configuring performance summaries and alerts.
Key Features & Use Cases
1. Real-Time or Aggregated KPI Display
Supports both live data (e.g., current power output) and aggregated metrics (e.g., total energy generated today).
Use Case – Solar Plant Dashboard
A dashboard displays the current total AC power output across all inverters using a Single KPI Widget, helping operations teams monitor live production.
2. Customizable Formatting
Users can format the KPI value with units, labels, and multi-state thresholds to improve clarity and context.
Use Case – Wind Farm Performance Report
A report includes a Single KPI Widget showing the average turbine availability for the past month, formatted as a percentage with color-coded thresholds (0-25% = Red, 25-50% = Orange, 50-75% = Yellow, 75-100% = Green.
3. High-Visibility Design
The widget is designed for maximum visibility, making it ideal for highlighting critical metrics in executive dashboards or summary reports.
Use Case – BESS Fleet Overview
An executive dashboard features a Single KPI Widget showing the total energy discharged across all battery sites in the last 24 hours, supporting fleet-level performance tracking.
Data Types Used
The Single KPI Widget supports display of a single value, without timestamp:
Real-time indicates the latest value from the data source
Aggregated indicates the value of the latest aggregation interval
These data types can be sourced from SCADA systems, data warehouses, or calculated within Bazefield or the BI App.
Widget Use in BI App Types
Use in Dashboards
In dashboards, the Single KPI Widget provides real-time visibility into critical metrics. It is often used at the top of dashboards to highlight current system status or performance summaries.
Example – Solar Operations Dashboard
A dashboard displays a Single KPI Widget showing live total energy output across all solar arrays. This gives operations teams immediate insight into production levels.
Use in Reports
In reports, the widget supports historical KPI summaries and performance reviews. It helps stakeholders quickly assess key metrics without scanning detailed tables or charts.
Example – Monthly Wind Farm Report
A report includes a Single KPI Widget showing the total energy generated across all turbines during the reporting period, supporting executive-level performance evaluation.
