To create a dashboard application:
Open the BI Manager application.
Click Create App.
A configuration popup will appear with setup options, spread across three tabs:
General configuration
Name: Enter a name for your application.
Type: Select Dashboard as the type if you want to create a dashboard.
Description (optional): Provide a description for your dashboard if needed.
Assets configuration
Asset Types
A dashboard is always linked to one or more asset types. Select the asset types for your dashboard:
Data displayed in the dashboard can come from the chosen asset types or from their children asset types (see hierarchy in the Object Manager).
Example: You can create a SolarFarm dashboard and display Inverter data inside it. However, if you create an Inverter dashboard, you won’t be able to display SolarFarm data.
Asset Selection
These settings define how users can select assets within the dashboard:
Hidden: No asset picker is shown. The asset is pre-configured when the dashboard is deployed to the menu.
Single Select: The asset picker is available, but users can select only one asset at a time.
Multiple Select: The asset picker is available, and users can select multiple assets at once.
Use default assets
If assets are selected here, they will be automatically selected in the asset picker each time the dashboard is displayed.
Advanced configuration
Asset Model (optional)
Depending on the selected asset types, you may specify one or more asset models. This allows you to build dashboards tailored to specific asset models.
Retain asset filter (optional)
When this option is enabled, the selected assets are preserved when navigating from the current dashboard to another dashboard of the same type.
Allow assets from datasource (optional)
When this option is enabled, the selected assets are preserved when navigating from the current dashboard to another dashboard, even if the target dashboard does not include a datasource with the selected asset type.
Example Configurations
Example 1
Asset Type: Turbine
Asset Model: V90
Asset Picker: Multiple Select
👉 The user will be able to select multiple V90 turbines (within their permissions, see Set Permission & Access), in the dashboard.
Example 2
Asset Type: Inverter
Asset Model: (none specified)
Asset Picker: Single Select
👉 The user will be able to select any type of Inverter (within their permissions, see Set Permission & Access), but only one at a time.
Time Configuration
Show Calendar: When enabled, a calendar is available for selecting custom date ranges.
Show Quick Interval Buttons: When enabled, quick interval buttons can be configured. The default checkbox determines which interval is automatically applied when the dashboard is first loaded.
Enable Future Dates: Allows users to select future dates in the calendar.
Enable Maximum Days for Filter: Allows the dashboard creator to define the maximum number of consecutive days that can be queried. This helps prevent performance issues on heavy dashboards by limiting the amount of data retrieved.
Retain Time Period Filter: When enabled, the selected time period is preserved when navigating from the current dashboard to another dashboard.
Read-only view configuration
Enabling this option will allow all users to view the configuration of each widget in the dashboard, without being able to modify it.
Access configuration
Allows to fine-tune access to the BI Manager directly from its creation UI.
Configure read/write permissions per application for any role. All permission changes are automatically synced to Access Management.
Saving the app configuration
When finishing the app configuration, the user can click save which will result on a newly created dashboard in the draft edition state (see Version control workflow for more information on draft vs published version).
The user can now create views/section (see Create/Edit a View & Section), create a widget Grid (see Create a Widget Grid), link datasource ( Link Data Sources to Applications) and add widgets (see Widget Configurations)
